Laceys Lunches

My name is Elisha and I am an Irish Mama in training, wife and food blogger. We are living in the beautiful west of Ireland and my passions in my life to name a few are baking, food and my family!

As a new mother of a beautiful baby girl, I wanted her to have the best start to life, breastfeeding for the first year of her life I wanted to continue on with healthy and nutritious diet for her. My daughter is now 13 months old and we have been using the baby led weaning method with her since she was 6 months old. Baby Led Weaning, quite simply, means letting your child feed themselves from the very start of weaning. You just hand them the food in a suitably-sized piece and if they like it they eat it and if they don’t they won’t.

Our baby led weaning journey began when Lacey was six months of age, we introduced solids to Lacey in the form of pureed fruits and vegetables such as pear, apple, sweet potato, carrots and butternut squash.  In the beginning Lacey was a fantastic eater, she would happily gobble up all her meals, always looking for more.  However it didnt last long and meal times quickly became a source of frustration and disappointment as Lacey refused to be spoon fed.

Lacey now spent meal times thrashing her head from side to side to avoid the spoon coming close to her and she was getting very upset during meal times.  I tried everything but to no avail. Both upset with the whole thing, something I never wanted as meal times should be full of fun and enjoyment.  We couldn’t continue on like this so I decided to give this new trend of Baby Led Weaning a go. Searching on the internet there is lots of great information available for new Moms and Dads who are stepping into feeding for the first time.

It really suited us as Lacey loves to feed herself, little miss independent! She loves to explore the new textures of food, it is fantastic for their development. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is beginning to wean their baby. There is no purees, no ice cube trays, no food processor, no baby rice, just you and your child, eating food that you enjoy.

Lacey now gets so excited for meal times, something I always imagined meal times would be. She is like me, a lover of vegetables! Meal times are now a joy for all our family, its lovely to be able to sit together as a new family, we catch up on our days events and enjoy the same delicious home cooked food!

Here you will find a delicious collection of baby led weaning recipes that I hope your little one will enjoy as much as my gorgeous growing daughter did.
